Biography

Ever since his first lesson at eight years old, Greenwood resident Silas Schiera has been making music wherever he has gone. He began his musical journey with violin while he was living in Oman, playing there for three years. When he moved back to the United States of America at the age of eleven, he switched to cello due to the fact that “you can sit down while playing it.” Silas has taken lessons with several accomplished cellists, including Dr. Linda Jennings and Dr. Richard Thomas, and has given two recitals. He has played in many different ensembles up and down the East Coast of the United States, including Varna International, the IUP Symphony Orchestra, and the Lander University String Orchestra. Silas also plays tuba and trombone, and has performed on these instruments with several different ensembles in the upstate of South Carolina, including the Lander University Wind Ensemble and Lander University Jazz Ensemble. As a founding member of the Barbercats barbershop quartet, Silas has performed with the group many times in and around Greenwood.
